7 Tips for Webmasters

Future hub posts will include more details on the tips below

Make search engines your friends: Do this by submitting your site to all the major (and minor) search engines. Including: Google, Bing, Yahoo!, and ask.com. Today Google is a webmasters best friend. Get to know it.
Here's a hub I wrote about using the Trovit Classifieds search engine to advertise your internet web sites and products. http://hubpages.com/hub/Use-Craigslist-and-Other-Classifieds-to-Drive-Traffic-to-your-website

Get your links out there: Join site directories, link exchange programs, forums, and traffic exchange programs.
Check back for links to some of the sites which I provided.

Use Meta Tags: In addition to the content on your site search engines use meta tags to find your site and direct it to relevant searchers. Add meta tags and keywords to every page on your site.
Check back for where to put them, the most popular, which ones to avoid, and more about meta tags.

Create a site map: Submitting a site map to search engines will help them easily crawl your page and may reveal pages that they would not have found otherwise.
Check back to find out more about site maps and exactly how to create a site map and how to submit it to search engines

Be a wise consumer, do your research: No matter what you're doing you will have to spend money for a truly successful website. Use the option that works best based on what you need. For example, did you know that you can save over four dollars on domain registration if you click on the Godaddy link on alexa? But, godaddy may not be the most cost effective form of hosting for your site. Do you need a search engine optimization firm? A search optimization firm can be beneficial for some but make sure you're using someone with a proven track record at a competitive cost.
Check back for more deals and freebies that may benefit you.

Take advantage of social media: Social media is key to a sites advancement. Which sites will work for your site? Use facebook, twitter, youtube, myspace, linkedin, reddit, and others to get yourself out there.
Check back to find out how to use social media marketing to your advantage.

Choose affiliates wisely: Using affiliate programs is a good way to make money but choose your affiliates carefully. Ask yourself some questions: Are your followers really going to want what you're offering? Is this site really trustworthy? Will the time and effort I put into using this program be worth the potential profit?
Check back for a list of affiliates which may interest you.

thehemu, thank you. That's great advice that I didn't think to include. I will certainly include it when i write a more detailed article.

thats great. But you also need to be keyword specific for specific country to gain more traffic. For e.g. Type free blog in google.com and google.co.in and check the difference.

Thanks Rooskaya, I can relate to your blogs too. Expats in Russia are few and far between. Malbel, I'll check it out. Thank you.

Now that's the cool stuff you've shared with us.

It's actually bad practice to submit your website to search engines. If you do proper SEO, search engines will find your content through backlinks. By submitting a site to search engines it can make you appear "desperate." I have a whole hub on the topic if you'd like to learn more.
